Meals On Wheels – more than just a meal!
Meals On Wheels (MOW) helps those who are unable to shop for their own food or to cook to maintain their independence at home by delivering nutritious, delicious and affordable meals. MOW also provides clients with a caring connection to the community. Clients must meet eligibility requirements of CCSH.
Basic Information for Recipients
Meals are delivered MONDAY, WEDNESDAY and FRIDAY of each week.
DELIVERY TIMES: Meals are delivered between the hours of approximately 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
MENU: Each meal consists of soup/salad, a main course of meat, vegetables and potatoes, and a dessert. Foods are rotated to give variety and there are always alternate options to choose from. Substitutions can be made in case of food allergies. Special diets can be ordered for medical or health reasons e.g. Diabetes.
Please note the following important information:
- If you are unable to consume your entire meal, put the leftovers in the refrigerator immediately. If you have saved part of your meal to eat later in the day, reheat it only once.
- Meal containers are not microwavable. Throw out what you do not eat in one day. DO NOT STOCKPILE MEALS.
PAYMENT: The cost per meal is $6.00. You will be billed monthly for meals. Payment may be given to the driver, in person by cash or cheque at the office at 293 Main St. or cheques mailed to Community Care for South Hastings Inc.
ORDERING MEALS: After completing an application for Meals on Wheels, meals will be sent to you automatically unless we are notified that a cancellation is necessary. If you do cancel your meals for an indefinite time period, we must receive your order to restart delivery TWO DAYS BEFORE the day before the meal is required.
At the end of each month you will receive a comprehensive list of the meals being served for the next month. The recipient makes their selection for each delivery day and returns the completed form to the Deseronto office in person, by phone, with the meal delivery volunteer or via fax.
CANCELLATION: Please cancel your meal at least two days in advance. If this is not possible, call our office between 8:30 – 9:00 a.m. on the day the meal is to be cancelled.
Should we have to cancel meal delivery, for example during a winter storm, you will be contacted by telephone during the morning hours.
HOLIDAY SCHEDULE: There is no delivery of meals on Statutory Holidays, but you will be provided with a frozen meal on the last regular delivery day if you choose that option.
DRIVERS: Your meals are delivered by concerned members of our community who give freely of their time to bring you this service. We ask your cooperation and good will. Delays may be unavoidable.
